How did you become an artist?

I am a self taught artist who began painting over 20 years ago as a way of dealing with a series of chellenging life events. Due to my lack of formal art education I found it difficult to connect with galleries, so I had to make my own opportunities. I built my own gallery in a former cotton spinning mill in my hometown in the Pennines. I was lucky to have my work spotted by a TV researcher which then led to my paintings being featured on the BBC One Show, Gardeners World, and more recently Sky Arts.

Do you ship original art worldwide?

Yes, my original works are shipped unframed worldwide using UPS or FedEx fully tracked service. Click for shipping info

What prices are your original paintings?

My original paintings start from around £1000 for a smaller to medium piece up to 12,000 + for a larger canvas which has taken typically 12 months to complete.

Do you take commissions?

I do not take commissions at the present due to time constraints & other project commitments

Which art mediums do you use?

I use highly pigmented traditional oils. I have learned by trial and error that it is better to spend more on good quality paints, as the vibrancy and tonal ranges are far superior. I use Pebeó primer paste as a texture base for my paintings, before applying a quick drying acrylic as the base colour. For final details I use Michael Harding or Old Holland oils.

Do you licence your work for publication?

For all matters concerning licencing and copyright of my work, I am a registered member of the Design & Artists Copyright Society. DACS is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to championing, protecting and managing the rights of artists, and maximising their royalties. If you wish to discuss licencing of my work for publication of any kind, please get in touch at hello@chriscyprus.com or contact DACS directly to discuss how to set up a licencing agreement to use my images.

Do you sell prints?

I sell a range of limited edition prints online, these are signed and hand packaged at my studio. I have also launched a range of open-edition gicleé prints which are dropshipped directly to you by The Print Space London

Do you show your work at other galleries?

I am represented by The Biscuit Factory Gallery, Newcastle which has been listed in the Times top 10 galleries in the UK.
